Review: sources, facts and checking
Review how you test claims, assess sources and deal honestly with what is unknown.
After this lesson
You check an AI text claim by claim and label each claim as supported, incorrect or unknown.
In view · Choices and control
Every claim gets a label
Take the claims out of the text and look them up in the permitted source.
If you find it, it is supported. If the source contradicts it, it is incorrect.
If the source says nothing, fill in nothing. Check with someone or leave it out.
Part 1 of 3 · Find the passage
Your preference for less movement is on. Choose each part yourself.
Check claim by claim
Do not assess an AI text as a whole. Pull out the checkable statements: names, dates, amounts, conditions and conclusions (lessons 36 and 98). Look up each statement in a permitted source. Supported means you find it there. Incorrect means the source contradicts it. Unknown means the source says nothing about it. That does not prove the statement is false, but it does not give you permission to fill something in either. A missing price does not mean free.
Assess the source itself too
A source is only usable if it really exists, is about this situation and is up to date enough (lessons 35 and 55). Watch the difference between the publication date and the date of an event (lesson 18). A summary can leave out an exception or condition that changes the meaning (lessons 7 and 36). If you work with your own documents, as with RAG, a reference to a passage only helps if that passage really supports the conclusion (lessons 14, 75 and 76).
Compare, record and call in help
Put the source and the draft side by side and look at words that determine the meaning: only, from, unless, at most (lessons 45 and 56). For each claim, briefly note the source passage, the outcome and the correction. That way someone else can follow your check. A second AI answer is not independent confirmation: open the original source. When there are consequences for money, health, rights or reputation, have an expert look at it too.
New practice example
From explanation to a usable result.
You check an AI text claim by claim. Each claim is supported, incorrect or unknown.
Fictional practice situationFictional message from a community centre: the cooking workshop is on Thursday from 19:00 to 21:00, with a maximum of 12 participants. Nothing is said about a price. An AI summary says: Thursday at 19:00, 15 places, participation €10.
View a possible solution
This is how it can be done
Thursday at 19:00: supported. 15 places: incorrect, the source says a maximum of 12. Participation €10: unknown, the source does not mention a price. The corrected summary states 12 places and leaves out the price or says that it will follow.
Why this works
By giving each claim a label, you see exactly what you need to correct and what you need to ask about.
Make it slightly more difficult
Add a claim about a location that appears nowhere in the source. Which label does it get, and what do you write in the correction?
Extra practice, at your own pace. You do not need to submit anything. This does not count towards an automatic assessment.

Why this approach works
By giving each claim a label, you see exactly what you need to correct and what you need to ask about.
A step further
Add a claim about a location that appears nowhere in the source. Which label does it get, and what do you write in the correction?
Try & discover · no obligation
Become the source checker yourself
Only mark statements that the source does not support. Then check your selection.
Fictional club rules: members pay €40 a year, young people under 18 pay €20. Registration is possible until 31 March. A price for non-members has not been set.
Select which sentences you would correct above. The answer remains hidden until you check your selection.
This trial works locally with fictitious data and does not count towards your lesson completion. It starts anew with a new lesson or reload.
A prompt to get you started
Check this fictional summary against the source. Source: “Members pay €40 a year. Young people under 18 pay €20. Registration is possible until 31 March. A price for non-members has not been set.” Summary: “Everyone pays €40, registration is open all year and non-members pay €50.” Make a table with claim, source passage, outcome (supported, incorrect or unknown) and correction. Do not fill in anything the source does not say.
Apply it
An AI summary of a fictional set of rules says: “Cancelling is always free.” The rules say: “Cancelling is free up to 48 hours in advance.”
Which approach best fits this situation?
- Leave the sentence, because cancelling is free in most cases.
- Label the claim as incorrect and restore the 48-hour condition in the summary.
- Label the claim as unknown, because a summary is simply shorter.

Test your insight
The source says nothing about a price for non-members. How do you label the claim “non-members pay €50”?
- Supported, because €50 is a logical price.
- Incorrect, because the source mentions €40.
- Unknown: the source says nothing about it, so you make no promise about a price.
Extra practice
Do the check yourself first and then compare it with Ende’s answer or with the example. Pay particular attention to the exception for young people.
Everyone pays €40: incorrect, young people under 18 pay €20. Registration is open all year: incorrect, the source says until 31 March. Non-members pay €50: unknown, the source sets no price. Correction: members pay €40, young people under 18 pay €20 and registration is possible until 31 March. No price is known for non-members.
