Demonstrably check a AI answer

Turn a persuasive answer into a list of claims that you can test.

After this lesson

You check individual claims and distinguish between supported, incorrect, and unknown.

In view · Choices and control

Three outcomes of your source check

  1. You find the concrete claim in the original, permitted source.

  2. The source contradicts the claim; correct it before use.

  3. The information is missing. Make that visible and do not invent a supplement.

Remember: Unknown is different from proven false; check per claim. Open het volledige schema ↗

Split the answer into checkpoints

Do not assess an answer as a single whole. Underline individual statements: a time, a price, a place, or a conclusion. With a fictional workshop source, time and online participation may be fixed while the price is missing. A text with three correct details and one invented price is not yet ready for use as a whole. Therefore, determine how to check each important claim.

Use three clear outcomes

Call a claim supported if you find it in an authorised source. Call it incorrect if the source contradicts it. If nothing is stated about the subject, the claim is unknown or unconfirmed; that is not the same as proven false. A missing price, for example, does not automatically mean free. For a new source, also check the date, origin, and whether it truly concerns this situation.

Record a small check

Create a short list with claim, source passage, outcome, and any correction. You do not need to write an extensive report for a simple exercise. A short traceable note does prevent you from forgetting later why you adjusted something. AI may help structure that check, but a second AI confirmation does not replace opening the original source. For major consequences, have a suitable person review it.

New practice example

From explanation to a usable result.

A check becomes demonstrable if you note the evidence used for every important claim.

Fictional practice situation

A fictitious answer says that a workshop is free, starts on Saturday at 10 o'clock, and provides a certificate. The source only mentions free and Saturday; the hour and certificate are missing.

View a possible solution

This is how it can be done

Keep three control rules: free — confirmed in source; 10 o'clock — not substantiated; certificate — not substantiated. Remove the last two promises or ask the organiser for confirmation.

Why this works

A repeatable audit trail helps a colleague understand why you adopt or adjust something. A AI that corroborates itself is not an extra source.

Make it slightly more difficult

Add a real error correction as a new version to your practice work and note which earlier claim is no longer valid as a result.

Extra practice, at your own pace. You do not need to submit anything. This does not count towards an automatic assessment.

Ende, your light pink practice buddy

The fictitious source is included. Only when selecting ‘Let Ende answer’ do you send your assignment to the AI service. Do not use private data.

Why this approach works

A repeatable audit trail helps a colleague understand why you adopt or adjust something. A AI that corroborates itself is not an extra source.

A step further

Add a real error correction as a new version to your practice work and note which earlier claim is no longer valid as a result.

A prompt to get you started

Check this fictional draft exclusively against the source. Source: the workshop is on Saturday from 10 to 11 o'clock and takes place online. Price not specified. Draft: on Saturday from 10 to 11 o'clock we meet in Antwerp; participation is free. Create one line per claim with supported, incorrect, or unknown and the reason. Do not fill in missing facts.

Apply it

A workshop concept mentions a price of 25 euro, but the only approved source says nothing about the price.

Which approach best fits this situation?

  • Change the price to free because the source does not mention an amount.
  • Use 25 euro because it seems like a realistic amount.
  • Mark the price as unconfirmed and request the missing information.

Test your insight

A source and a price claim. Illustration for the question.

A source mentions no price. Which conclusion is responsible?

  • The price is unknown; do not make a commitment regarding free participation.
  • Missing price means free.
  • Fill in the most common price on the internet.
Extra practice

Create the three outcomes for time, place, and price yourself and then compare with Ende.

Time: supported, both hours are in the source. Place Antwerp: incorrect if a physical meeting place, the source says online. Free: unknown, there is no price in the source. A useful correction preserves the times and online participation and makes no price promise.
