Measuring results: time and quality
Measure whether AI actually saves you time and improves quality.
After this lesson
You can set up a simple measurement for time savings and quality.

Time savings and quality
Measure the full task without AI as a comparison point.
Count input preparation, generation, and post-processing together.
Assess accuracy, completeness, and tone in both results.
Part 1 of 3 · Standard procedure
Your preference for less movement is on. Choose each part yourself.
Measure time
Note how long a task takes with and without AI.
Measure quality
Use a short checklist: accuracy, completeness, tone.
Look at post-processing
Also count the time you need to check and adjust the result.
New practice example
From explanation to a usable result.
Measure the time to a verified usable result, including preparation and recovery.
Fictional practice situationFictional trial: a summary takes 18 minutes manually. With AI preparation costs 4, generating 1, and control plus recovery 8 minutes. There are five equal trials.
View a possible solution
This is how it can be done
For this trial, the total AI time is 13 minutes and the time saving is 5 minutes. Repeat the measurement for all five tasks and note errors. One fast trial does not yet prove that the average is better.
Why this works
A short answer can cause extra control work. Time and quality must therefore be measured together.
Make it slightly more difficult
Increase the control time to 15 minutes and recalculate. Explain why faster generation no longer makes the total workflow faster.
Extra practice, at your own pace. You do not need to submit anything. This does not count towards an automatic assessment.

Calculate the actual time savings
Increase the check time until the time savings disappear. What changes if you do the task more often?
The one-off setup is paid back in terms of time from 4 comparable tasks. That does not yet say anything about the quality.
All times are fictitious and measurably adjustable. This is a practice calculation with simplified assumptions. Also compare quality and consequences of errors.
This trial works locally with fictitious data and does not count towards your lesson completion. It starts anew with a new lesson or reload.
A prompt to get you started
Create a simple measurement form to see if AI saves time when writing emails. Including time before checking and time for post-processing.
Apply it
AI creates a draft in two minutes. Review and correction cost eight minutes; the old method took six minutes.
Which approach best fits this situation?
- Note ten minutes of total effort and also compare the quality.
- Report four minutes of time savings based on the draft alone.
- Do not include correction time because AI was already finished.
With JavaScript, you can check your approach and receive immediate feedback.
Test your insight
What should you include when measuring time savings?
- Only the time that AI needs.
- Also the time for checking and post-processing.
- Nothing.
Extra practice
Choose one task and note how you would measure time and quality.
Task: meeting notes. Measurement: minutes to usable action list + number of corrections needed.
