Comparing documents
Let AI place two texts side by side and indicate differences.
After this lesson
You ask for a comparison that makes differences and similarities clear.
In view · Side by side
Two documents against the same yardstick
Give both documents clearly separated and recognisable names.
Ask for differences in, for example, agreements, conditions and missing parts.
Locate every reported difference in both original texts.
Part 1 of 3 · Version A and B
Your preference for less movement is on. Choose each part yourself.
Provide both texts
Keep them clearly separated in the prompt.
Ask for specific points
For example: differences in agreements, tone, or missing information.
Check the comparison
Check yourself whether the mentioned differences are correct.
New practice example
From explanation to a usable result.
Comparing documents requires you to separate differences in agreements from differences in phrasing.
Fictional practice situationFictitious document A: a workshop lasts 60 minutes and has eight places. Document B: the workshop lasts 90 minutes; the number of places is not mentioned.
View a possible solution
This is how it can be done
Create two lines: duration changes from 60 to 90 minutes; capacity goes from eight to not mentioned. When writing about capacity, do not state that the limitation has disappeared: this must first be confirmed.
Why this works
An omitted agreement is not automatically abolished. Refer to both text versions for every difference.
Make it slightly more difficult
Add a third document that sets the duration back to 60 minutes, but has no version date. Which question do you ask before choosing one version as final?
Extra practice, at your own pace. You do not need to submit anything. This does not count towards an automatic assessment.

Why this approach works

Place source and concept side by side
Adjust the values in the concept. See what difference you would give back to the writer.
Fictitious arrangements for an online introduction. Compare the original arrangements with the values that might end up in a concept.
| Part | Source | Concept | Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| End time | 11:00 | 11:30 | Difference |
| Form | online | online | Same |
| Contact person | Noor | Unknown | Difference |
Targeted feedback you could provide
- End time: This value deviates from the source. Check whether the change was actually agreed upon. Ask to retain the source value "11:00", unless a change is confirmed.
- Contact person: Information from the source is now missing in the concept. Ask to retain the source value "Noor", unless a change is confirmed.
You are only changing three fixed fields of a fictitious concept. This is not a full document analysis or a check of a real upload.
This trial works locally with fictitious data and does not count towards your lesson completion. It starts anew with a new lesson or reload.
A prompt to get you started
Compare text A and text B. Provide a list of the most important differences. Do not invent extra information. Text A: [A]. Text B: [B].
Apply it
You are comparing two fictitious quotes. The total remains the same, but the exclusion of a service has changed.
Which approach best fits this situation?
- Conclude that there is no difference because the totals are equal.
- Assess only the layout of both documents.
- Compare amounts, terms and conditions and refer to the changed passages.
With JavaScript, you can check your approach and receive immediate feedback.
Test your insight
What should you do after a AI comparison of documents?
- Use the comparison immediately.
- Check the mentioned differences yourself in the original texts.
- Nothing.
Extra practice
Describe a situation in which you want to compare two documents and write the prompt.
Comparing two versions of a quote on price, terms, and delivery time.
