Transparency and explainability
Make it clear when and how AI has been used.
After this lesson
You can explain why transparency is important and how to implement it practically.
In view · How it connects
Make the role of AI visible
Specify which part was a proposal or edit by AI.
Make it clear what has been self-reviewed by a person.
Provide relevant sources, assumptions, and uncertainties.
Part 1 of 3 · AI contribution
Your preference for less movement is on. Choose each part yourself.
Why transparency?
Users and colleagues must know when AI has played a role.
Practical
Mention in documents or emails that AI was used for a draft, and that a human has checked it.
Explainability
Can you explain why the system arrived at a certain answer? If not, be extra cautious.
New practice example
From explanation to a usable result.
A useful explanation states which source and check were used and where uncertainty remains.
Fictional practice situationA fictitious association uses AI to rewrite an announcement. A volunteer asks why the start time is not in the text.
View a possible solution
This is how it can be done
Explain: the text was prepared with AI based on the organiser's note; the hour is missing from it. A colleague checks the facts before publication. As soon as the hour is confirmed, it will be added.
Why this works
This explanation makes the missing fact and the recovery route visible. "The AI decided that" shifts the responsibility incorrectly.
Make it slightly more difficult
Make the same explanation in one short sentence for a participant and in three points for the colleague checking the draft.
Extra practice, at your own pace. You do not need to submit anything. This does not count towards an automatic assessment.

On this device only. AI answers remain only in this page memory. This is self-review, not a grade.
Why this approach works
This explanation makes the missing fact and the recovery route visible. "The AI decided that" shifts the responsibility incorrectly.
A step further
Make the same explanation in one short sentence for a participant and in three points for the colleague checking the draft.
A prompt to get you started
Write a short sentence that you can place under a AI-supported text to be transparent about the use of AI.
Apply it
A team publishes a verified AI concept. The proposed explanation says the text was written entirely independently by an expert.
Which approach best fits this situation?
- Describe the AI usage and the actual human review performed honestly.
- Leave the incorrect explanation in place to gain trust.
- Claim that every fact has been independently verified without actually doing so.
With JavaScript, you can check your approach and receive immediate feedback.
Test your insight
Why is transparency about AI use important?
- So that others know a human has checked it and is taking responsibility.
- It is not important.
- Only for external communication.
Extra practice
Formulate a transparency sentence that suits your organisation or team.
“This draft was prepared with the help of AI and checked by [name].”
